I will show you my UserTesting account in action, the interface, and my actual user testing analysis.

UserTesting.com claims to be a legitimate way to earn money by testing websites and applications, but is it? Is it secure? Is it time well spent?

UsertTesting.com is a usability testing platform that allows businesses to test their websites, applications, goods, prototypes, and other items with people from various walks of life.

UserTesting recruits and pays those users (also known as testers or participants) to perform usability tests on their own time as independent contractors.

According to Crunchase, Darrel Benatar (one of UserTesting’s co-founders) got the idea for UserTesting.com after seeing his co-worker Dave Garr doing usability testing on his company’s website, Suprise.com. Darrel and Dave co-founded UserTesting.com to make usability testing easier for other designers after witnessing its efficacy.

UserTesting.com is now one of the most widely used usability testing platforms in the world, with customers like Walmart, Domino’s, Facebook, lululemon, and others.

Is UserTesting.com a genuine website?

UserTesting is unquestionably a genuine business. They’ve been in business since 2007, providing a useful service to customers while also enabling regular internet users to earn money by participating in usability testing. The business is extremely open, they’re engaged on social media, and they pay.

The Bad

• Not a substitute for a job – You won’t be able to earn a livelihood off of this site if you don’t qualify for enough exams (except maybe in some rare cases of luck and extreme frugality).
• Only PayPal payments are accepted – This prevents anybody who does not have a PayPal account from earning money with UserTesting.
• Your application may be rejected if UserTesting already has enough testers from your country.
• The qualification exam must be completed on a desktop computer, which means you won’t be able to test on UserTesting if you just have a smartphone.
• The tests are given out on a first-come, first-served basis. When you notice a new exam, you must act quickly or you will lose it.
• You’ll take a bunch of screeners and end up not being qualified – This may be disheartening, but don’t give up; an exam that you do qualify for is on the way!
• Live discussions may be awkward and dull at times – I often feel like I’m on the hot seat, but hey, they pay well!
• Linux users will not be able to utilize it – TryMyUI or another commercial usability testing site if you use Linux.

• Before attempting to qualify, read the exam description — It’s pointless to waste time on a test screener for which you know you won’t qualify.
• Don’t make numerous accounts – you’ll be banned if you do.
• Tests should be done in a calm environment.
